10th Grade Safety Education: 45 days in length

Driver's Education: 22 days in length
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
30 Hours of Driver Education classroom theory may qualify the eligible student for a possible auto insurance discount upon the successful completion of the course. Emphasis will be on performing the driving task safely, interacting with other roadway users, risk reduction, driving in different environments, and responsibilities as a driver.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND:
THE DRIVING TASK AND THE IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPING A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO DRIVING USING THE I.P.D.E PROCESS TO BETTER MANAGE RISK AND THUS REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE OR HARM.
TRAFFIC LAWS RELATED TO SAFE DRIVING.
DRIVING STRATEGIES FOR DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS.
INFLUENCES UPON DRIVER PERFORMANCE.
THE PA. DRIVER LICENSING SYSTEM.

CPR/AED/First Aid: 22 days in length
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the CPR/AED/First Aid program for the lay responder is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of the injury or sudden illness until Advanced Medical help arrives. The content and activities taught in this class will help students identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions, recognizing emergencies and make appropriate decisions for first aid care. Each course also includes information on injury and illness prevention, with a focus on personal safety.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND:
Part 1: CPR/AED Certification (Adult, Child & Infant)
Preventing disease transmission and safety for you
Checking for conscious person-emergency action steps
Clearing an obstructed airway of a conscious adult, child and infant
CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) on adult, child and infant
Use of AED machine (automated external defibrillator)
Part 2: First Aid Certification (Standard)
Soft Tissue Injuries-Cuts, Scrapes and Bruises (bleeding control)
Injuries to Muscles, Bones, and Joints (splinting)
Head Neck and Spine Injuries
Caring for Sudden Illnesses (fainting, diabetic emergencies, seizure, strokes, poisoning, allergic reaction)
Environmental Emergencies -Heat and Cold Related Injuries
AMERICAN RED CROSS OR ECSI CERTIFICATION:
Each student will have the opportunity to become certified in CPR, AED and First Aid for the Adult, Child and Infant. Both certification cards will expire after two years of the completion date. Certification means the teacher is able to verify that the student demonstrated competency in all required skills. The student must also earn an 80% on each of the written American Red Cross quizzes.
