Tutor Requests:
If you would like to request an NHS tutor, please complete the "Tutor Request Form" on the right. Please keep in mind that tutoring is a volunteer service provided by the NHS. While student volunteers will endeavor to do their best, they are not teachers or paid professionals. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at mdaley@pennsburysd.org
In order to recieve credit for tutoring, students MUST fill out the tutoring points form located on Canvas. All forms MUST be submitted via Canvas, no emails or hard copies will be accepted.
Tutoring for NHS Members:
Tutoring is one of the mandatory points students must obtain if they want to graduate with full honors. Tutoring for eight hours will gain members one (1) NHS point. Opportunities will be emailed throughout the year for qualified candidates.
The first person to respond to the email is assigned the job. If a student gets the job, he or she will receive the tutee's name, phone number, and email address. The time should suit both of your schedules. Options for meeting include before or after school (in a classroom or library), during lunch, in a public place (e.g., Panera, local library, etc.), a Zoom/Google Meet (or similar virtual format), facetime, text, phone call, Snapchat, Skype, etc. It is up to the tutor and tutee to make arrangements about how and when they will meet. The time should suit both schedules. Tutors should not go to the home of the tutee.
Students ARE expected to be competent in the areas for which they volunteer, but they do NOT need to be experts; students are not the teacher but a student volunteer.
Students are permitted to create their own opportunity. If there is someone in your class or a friend from the neighborhood who is struggling, he or she might be a potential tutee for you to consider.
FAQ: Can I tutor a sibling or parent? Not for NHS credit, but you should help a family member who is struggling.
If there are any problems (i.e., contacting the tutee, the tutee contacting the tutor, a tutor's inability to progress as a tutor, etc.), please email Ms. Bellman AND Mrs. Daley as soon as possible.
Students get their NHS tutoring point by completing the "Tutor Verification Form" located below. All tutoring must be signed off by an adult who can authenticate that tutoring took place. If students tutor in the library, the librarian can sign the form.
The deadline for the 2022/2023 school year submission is Friday, May 26, 2023.
