NHS Service Points:
In order to graduate with full National Honor Society honors, students need to consistently maintain a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of at least 3.5 and acquire eight (8) NHS service points: one (1) tutoring point, one (1) community service point, and six (6) NHS sponsored activity points. Point tallies can be accessed using the above links. On the spreadsheet there are TWO tabs (located on the bottom left). The main tab shows tutoring, community service, and sponsored points accrued. To see individual sponsored activities, click the tab to the right. It will show all individual NHS sponsored events. **Only active members can view point tallies. You must be signed in to Google with your Pennsbury ID to view the spreadsheet.
Below are some guidelines to help students attain necessary points and maintain their standing in the NHS.
Tutoring: All NHS members must tutor. Students receive one point for eight hours of service; Pennsbury has many students in need of tutoring, so ample opportunities for tutoring are available to NHS members; however, you can find your own tutoring opportunities. (Please see the Tutoring page for more information.)
Community Service: NHS Members must perform some community service on their own. Service with an outside organization must be verified on official letterhead from the organization where the volunteering was completed. Eight hours of service is required for one point. Service hours must be accumulated post-induction. Students who complete more than 16+ hours will receive a maximum of 2 points. (Please see the Community Service page for more information.)
Sponsored Events: All members will have many opportunities to get NHS sponsored points. Members will receive Canvas notifications about upcoming volunteer opportunities to attain sponsored points; however, it is each student's responsibility to sign-up for the events and sign in at the events to get points. Students should check emails, Canvas, and the NHS social media page regularly. Students should also keep their own lists of the events in which they participate.
The point breakdown for graduation is listed below:
If members have 0-1 point by graduation, they will receive an NHS certificate of participation for graduation.
If members have 2-3 points by graduation, they will receive an NHS certificate of participation, a card, and a pin.
If members have 4-7 points by graduation, they will receive an NHS certificate of participation, a card, a pin, and a yellow cord.
If members have 8 or more points (with 1 point for tutoring and 1 for community service), they will receive all of the above and a white stole.
