Students interested in joining the NHS at the end of their junior year must have a 3.5 or greater cumulative weighted GPA by the end of the first semester (junior year) to be invited. Invitations go out at the end of February and are due mid to mate March. Induction for the spring is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Auditorium.
To be granted acceptance, juniors must submit evidence of the pillars of the NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character
Scholarship: Scholarship is demonstrated through a student's GPA. It is not part of the application process, but the selection process.
Leadership: To show leadership qualities, students will submit a list of their extracurricular and community service activities beginning with ninth grade through 11th grade on the application. Students can show leadership by including clubs, teams, musical groups, religious organizations, Boy/Girl Scouts, etc. Students do not need to be captains, team leaders, officers, etc. to list the activity. Students will secure the signature or an email from of the sponsor of each organization to verify their participation.
Service: As part of the application, students must show service through volunteer community service. Students must have 15 or more hours of volunteer work (helping others without getting paid or receiving course credit) To verify volunteer work, students will include a letter written on official letterhead by a representative of the organization verifying at least 15 hours of service outside of the school day. Acceptable types of organizations include, but are not limited to, nonprofit organizations, charities, hospitals, churches, community organizations, shelters, etc. Unacceptable types of volunteer work include working for parents/family members (unless attached to a nonprofit organization) and unpaid work for a profit-based organization. You may not recieve service credit for organizations you are a member of (i.e. if you are in Wink 4 Pink you cannot also recieve service credit for it). Please see below for some suggestions about organizations in our community. More informaiton about community service
***Please note: If you participate in service for another Pennsbury club, such as FCCLA, FBLA, Wink for Pink, etc., this cannot be your community service hours. It must be with an outside organization.
Character: Character is shown by being in good standing within the school and the community from freshman to junior year. Discipline checks are run prior to induction. A discipline record does not automatically make you ineligible for induction.
Below are some places you may choose to contact to obtain your 15+ hours of service. You are not limited to this list. Check with your church, your coach, your family, and your friends for more ideas about volunteering. Volunteering can be fully remote. TASK (Trenton Soup Kitchen) offers remote volunteering. You can also send letters to the elderly (links below), but this will require tracking your own time and providing proof of the letters (pictures).
