Illness & Infection Control
If your child is suffering from an illness which could be contagious, they must remain home in line with the information below. This guidance is provided by Public Health Wales to help prevent the spread of infection. Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and well.
For information regarding exclusion periods for different illnesses, please see the guidance provided by Public Health Wales.
Medication
For reasons of health and safety, as a general rule we are not able to administer medicines in school. When children are well enough to come to school but have to finish a course of medicine, please ask your doctor if he/she can prescribe a three times per day medicine, as this can then be taken at home. However, we can assist when oral medication has to be administered 4 times a day. In this instance, parents/carers will be asked to complete a medication form.
There are also occasions when, under a doctor’s instructions, a pupil may need to take prescribed medication for a stated length of time. Only prescribed medication supplied by the parent/guardian will be administered to the pupil and it will be stored securely. Pupils will take the medication only when supervised by an adult and witnessed by a second adult. A written record is kept.
Pupils are able to bring asthma pumps into school where they will be stored safely in the classroom. All pumps should be labelled with the pupil’s name and have a copy of instructions as to its use. It is very important that parents take note of the ‘use by’ date for such drugs.
