Keeping Safe
SAFEGUARDING
At Pencoed Primary School, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children. If you have a concern about the safety or well-being of a child, please report this immediately to either Mr Raymond, Mrs Maund or Mrs Brennan (Designated Safeguarding Leads). In addition, advice can be sought from Mrs Karen Lamprey, Designated Governor for Child Protection.
If you are a parent or a visitor to the school and you are worried about the safety or well-being of a child or family please ask to speak to the Designated Safeguarding Leads or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Please access our child protection and safeguarding policy here.
SCHOOL EQUALITY AND ACCESSIBILITY PLANS
Everyone in Pencoed Primary School is valued. All pupils, whatever their particular needs, are treated with equal care and consideration. We are an inclusive school and each child in our care is provided with equal opportunities to develop all their talents and given the opportunity to experience all that the school has to offer. The Governors, Headteacher and staff promote equal access to all areas of the curriculum for all pupils, regardless of race, gender, ability, disability, faith and cultural background. See out policies page for our equality plan.

positive relationships
Developing good relationships and positive behaviour in the classroom, playground and wider community is essential for creating the right environment for effective learning and teaching. Where children and young people feel included, respected, safe and secure and when their achievements and contributions are valued and celebrated, they are more likely to develop self-confidence, resilience and positive views about themselves.
At Pencoed Primary School, we aspire to:
Make each day a fresh start
Give children clear, consistent rules for behaviour in school
Make clear the rewards children can expect for following the rules
Make clear the consequences of inappropriate behaviour
Encourage children to take responsibility for their own behaviour
Help children to mature and develop good behaviour
HEALTH & SAFETY
We aim to ensure that children are safe and secure at all times. The school adheres to the guidelines outlined by BCBC regarding Health and Safety in Education. Any health and safety concerns are to be reported to the Headteacher. Where appropriate, these issues will be brought to pupils’ attention via assemblies and class discussion.
The school works closely with other agencies, such as the Police and Network Rail safety. Any issues are monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.
Regular fire drills are undertaken and the school is equipped with appropriate safety equipment. Risk assessments have been undertaken on potential hazards and educational visits.
Visitors MUST report to the school office where they will be asked to sign in and wear identification badges if working in and around the school.
Parents should not enter the school via classroom doors but report to the school office.
All staff have a DBS check, this includes volunteers.
