8th Grade

2023-2024

Luck & Effort

8th graders chose a quote and drew a picture to depict what that quote means to them.  Luck is awesome, but so is trying, studying, not giving up, thinking, taking risks, persevering, learning, working hard, practicing, overcoming obstacles & experimenting!

Human Body .vs. Drugs Project

Students worked with a partner or two to create a life-sized poster of the human body.  They added information about vital organs as a review of how they function.

Each group was tasked with researching a particular drug and accessed valid information from NIDA to include Drug Facts on their poster.

Then, students participated in a gallery walk in which they viewed all of their classmates' posters and gathered information from each group to increase their functional knowledge of the effects drugs have on the body.

4. Demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

8. Demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

ANOD Vocabulary

8th graders worked in pairs or small groups to vocabulary words with their definitions at the start of our alcohol, nicotine & other drugs unit.  This type of work increases their content knowledge and allows them the chance to work on their interpersonal communication skills!

8th Grade Natural Highs

8th graders have been learning about the benefits of having a Natural High. A Natural High is the good feeling one experiences without the use of drugs.  People feel this when doing something fun and exciting and when they are happy.
