Pembroke High School has sadly entered the new school year without a librarian. The former librarian, Mrs. Murphy, lost her position last year due to a budget freeze. The budget freeze has also resulted in the loss of an English and Science teacher, as well as a World Language teacher, and a business teacher.
The school library and librarian can be a major benefit to students by assisting them with checking out books and study materials, and can help students with their school devices. The library allows students to check out learning materials and allows them to spend their study hall period in the library area. This can give students the freedom to collaborate with other classmates that are in a different study. Since the newest loss, students have been restricted from using the library in the study hall and – up until last week – were unable to check out books and other study materials that are on the library shelves.
When asking Ben Logan, a senior, about the effect not having a librarian has on him, he explained how the restriction of library materials is harming his education. He said, “Not having a librarian is detrimental to me. Not being able to work with my peers and use study materials extremely affects my educational prowess.”
Quinn Rushing, a sophomore at Pembroke High, feels the . He said “I would work more productively if I was able to collaborate with my classmates during study”.
Gabe Quinlan, a Junior, explained how all he needs is a silent environment so that he can be productive with his work during study hall. He said, “I just need a quiet place to finish my homework, and being able to work in the library helps me with that issue”.
Assistant Principal Ms. Kelley, gave a different opinion than the students. Ms. Kelley believes that, “There is no current staff to run the library, and it has no educational value during study hall.”
For students, there might be light at the end of the tunnel. The teacher that runs the library during Titan Time, Ms. Sagner said, “We are in the works of being trained to run the library." The library might be revived in the near future due to the library training of Ms. Sagner.

Recently PHS hosted some exchange students from Spain. Approximately 30 students and teachers came to learn about American culture and to share and teach their culture to others.
Having students from another country is an effective way that they can learn about how American students go through their day, and they can compare it to their life back home.
Some hosts explained what they did, and where they went with their exchange student. Many of them did exciting activities together, experienced new and unique restaurants, and got to see the differences between American and Spanish culture.
Cammie Snyder, who is a Junior, said “My exchange student and I went to many sports games together. We went to the Red Sox game, the high school football games, and the school volleyball games. We also did fun activities together like going to Top Golf.”
A majority of the host students said that they took their students to many restaurants and went to Boston's most popular areas and monuments.
In February, PHS students will travel to Spain to experience the exchange program first hand.

Teachers Work
Without a Contract
by Lauren Perry
In late June, the Pembroke Teachers Association’s contract ended, leaving teachers far from an agreement and without renewal. Every Monday teachers wear their red Pembroke Teachers Association (PTA) shirts to raise awareness of the lack of a contract and to support their union.
Mr. Morse, a math teacher, says the contract ended “On June 30, 2025.”
Mr. Morse is “not sure” if the Pembroke School Committee and PTA are close to agreement and claims, “Until a new agreement, they will work under the previous contract.”
“Things like work day/year, salary, leave policies, sick leave, etc, are all included in the contract,” says Mr. Morse.
Mrs. Pearson, an English teacher, says the PTA and school committee are “30-40%” from agreement, and that a consensus and agreement is hopefully in sight.
If there is no agreement soon the organization will, “Either hire a mediator or continue to meet until agreement,” says Mrs. Pearson.
Ms. Green, an art teacher, says she is “not sure” if the school committee and PTA are close to agreement.
Ms. Green stated, “We will continue to work without a contract." She added that the PTA's next steps could be going Work to Rule.
If teachers decide to work to rule, this means they will arrive at the start of the first block (7:20am), and leave at the end of the last block (2:33pm), and no extra help will be provided to students due to the lack of renewal on the contract. Additional support such as staying after school hours to help students, and even college recommendations will not be provided if teachers decide to work to rule.

Students to Tour Ireland
in April
by Patricia O'Brien
As April approaches, eight PHS students, and teachers, are preparing for a once in a lifetime trip to Ireland.
The trip, organized by Mrs. Mrowka, and Ms. Ruka, will take place in 2026 over April break. Students will depart on April 17 and arrive back on April 25. Their first stop will be Dublin , followed by an eight-day excursion around Ireland to Galway, Killarney, and then back to Dublin to finish their journey.
As of October, around 8 students have signed up to be a part of the trip. Each Student has made the decision to join for different unique and special reasons. Junior Rylee Chase states, “One reason I am going is because I thought it would be a fun opportunity to share with my friends and remember Junior year by.”
Other major reasons students have found interest in this trip include being able to travel to new places, see famous landmarks and historical sites, and connect with their ancestors.
This trip, which is still accepting students, will also be filled with many educational and historical opportunities that students would not be able to experience anywhere else. Students will visit sites such as the Irish Emigration Museum, Blarney castle, and Trinity College. By visiting these famous locations Students will be able to have an exciting trip filled with the perfect mix of education and fun.
Junior Zoe Colosimo is one of these students who will be able to gain a better understanding of Ireland's history and culture in April . Colosimo states, “I’d hope to learn about the Irish myths. I’d like to experience the liveliness of Irish music and their food as well as the landscapes like the castles and great hills.”
Although the trip does have many educational aspects, it will also be filled with site seeing of some of Ireland's most beautiful sights as well as many activities. Students and teachers will stop at the Cliffs of Moher while exploring the coastal region. While at the coastal regions students will also be able to feed baby lambs!
Even the teachers joining the students on this adventure are ready for a fun filled trip. For example Ms. Ruka states that she is excited about “Seeing more of Ireland I haven’t seen before.”
The Ireland trip will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and any and all students who are interested in finding out more about what this trip has to offer should see Mrs. Mrowka and or Ms. Ruka.

by Cameron Bright
Senior Matt D’Angelo has been named the Gym Class Hero of this month. He is 17 and a senior who plays three sports: hockey, golf, and track. He said, “He even won an award for his outstanding effort in Gym.”
The Titan Times sat down with D’Angelo to get to the heart of his gym prowess.

Parking Lot Chaos
by Addison Nee
The school day is usually pretty normal and calm, that is until the bell rings and all PHS senior and junior students sprint to their cars to try and be the first one out of the parking lot.
While all this traffic is happening due to all the new student drivers, the busses leaving the parking lot making it even harder for students to be the first one out of the lot.
All students parking in the senior lot have first-hand experience of this chaos. Senior Alissa Marcella said, “I think the time between when the busses and the seniors leave make it worse.”
There has been a reinforcement such as principal Mr. Talbot, assistant principal Mr. Rix, and Pembroke Police Officer Mary Simmons being outside and directing students across the road.
Senior student Callaghan Nee said, “The busses can come out and it makes it easier for me to get out when they direct traffic.”
While Nee agrees with the help of directing traffic, senior Maeve McCafferty does not agree when she says, “No they do not help because it makes it harder for the juniors to get out as fast.”
Seniors think if the busses leave a little later than the students do then there would be less accidents such as a student getting hit, because people won’t be to worried about beating the busses.
