More to Come From DECA
by Logan Rogers
DECA is a popular club that has been running for many years. It is a business oriented club where students compete in competitions and project based activities that are connected to the students business topic. DECA connects students to the real world by competing in real life scenarios including skits, presentations, and other conversations.
DECA competitions get higher in difficulty and increase in competitiveness as the student progresses. They will start in the district competition where students from the south shore compete. The students who do well enough in the District competition will move on to the state competition where students across the state compete. The International competition is the highest level of competitiveness. Only a select number of students from Massachusetts can compete in this competition. DECA’s international competition takes place in Georgia this year.
Will Pelagrini, a senior, believes that he will succeed in this year's competition. He said, “I think me and my partner will do great at districts this year. I am looking forward to seeing how far we make it this year”.
Each competition also includes many activities and food for every student. Students find Deca very enjoyable and believe it’s not only a competition, but an opportunity to spend time with classmates.
Chris Smolinski, a senior and DECA member, said, “DECA is really cool. I love that I am able to collaborate with my classmates while competing for a trophy that shows my commitment and hard work."
The club competes in December and is welcoming students to join their club. Evan Williams, a new member from last year, believes that everyone should feel the DECA experience.
He said, “I feel that DECA is really fun and a great experience that everyone should do."
The club meetings are hosted every Tuesday and Ms. Lang, the DECA advisor, is open to answering any questions in person or through email.
