This past week, PHS offered a new fro-yo option during all school lunches. The cafeteria workers were instrumental in getting the machine installed. Students are grateful to them for their brilliant idea.
The machine offers vanilla, chocolate, and swirl.
When the students here found out about the fro-yo machine, which is another option for ice cream with toppings, got very excited.
We tried out the fro-yo, making us the first students in Pembroke High history to try this new option. After enjoying a delicious cold treat on our tongues, and of course raising to a toast, we interviewed people on their opinions about the new world class fro-yo machine. Here's what we got...
Junior Anthony Pento
"I think the fro-yo is a good option to add in because it will give the students something to look forward to during the day."
Senior Kevin Murrin
"Who doesn't love a little fro-yo? I think it will boost the student morale here and make students more happy, which is what the facility wants."
Senior Jack Avedissian
"I think the fro-yo is going to be very good. Three new options are something we have never had before. Everyone I have talked to is very excited. We need to thank the lunch ladies, because they made this possible for everyone. They are looking out for us which is great to see. This will bring in a lot of money for the school, which makes it a great addition here at Pembroke High."
Weapons (2025):
Finally, A Good Modern Horror?
by Colin King
"Weapons" was officially released in theaters on August 8th and it was a big hit with horror movie fans. I have seen my fair share of horror movies in the past few years, and this one did not disappoint.
The film tells the story of an elementary school in the quiet town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania. At 2:17 am one morning, all the children in Justine Gandy’s third grade classroom got up, got out of their beds, opened the front door, and ran away into the dark. All students, except for one student, Alex Lilly.
A few household names appear in this movie including Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, and Austin Abrams. They all put on an amazing performance.
The big mystery is the location of these kids and what caused their disappearance. The story mainly focuses on Justine and one of the missing children’s fathers, Archer.
One thing that is interesting about this story is how it changes perspectives between characters so that everyone’s story gets told. The story doesn’t finish until all of the perspectives are told.
Visually, it’s very eerie and mysterious looking. There are some unexpected moments that will give you the heebie-jeebies. Dialogue-wise, it was sinister and mystical.
As a movie theater employee, I can confidently say that the theaters were packed every night for this movie. There were many returning customers that came to see the movie again.
With all that said, "Weapons" is a great, original pick for horror fans to enjoy this Halloween and on any different night, as well.
Rapper 'Young Thug' Releases New album "UY Scuti" After 2-Year Hiatus
by Will Pellagrini
Rapper 'Young Thug' released a new album titled UY Scuti on Sept. 26, 2025. Thug has spent over 900 days in jail connected to the Fulton County RICO trial. Prosecutors claimed that his record label, YSL (Young Slime Life) was a criminal street gang that was led by Thug.
The album consists of 20 songs that include features from big names such as Travis Scott, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, Future, Cardi B, and many more. Thug continues to build on his sound in this album and evolve in ways he has in his previous projects. The leading single of the album was Money On Money featuring Future, released on April 25, 2025.
Thug is able to have melodic and meaningful bars while still maintaining his traditional trap sound. One of the main standouts of this album is the feature artists. On many songs the feature artist outperforms Thug on his own song. Thug's performance was very solid but the features of the album definitely make it better. I would rate the album overall a 7/10.
Top 5 Songs:
Miss My Dogs
Thug discusses relationships with other rappers and really gets into the nitty-gritty on how 2 years in jail had affected him, perfect outro to his comeback album
Pipe Down (feat. Travis Scott)
Travis and Thug both have impressive verses with memorable lines that leave the listener wanting to come back
Pardon My Back (feat. Lil Baby)
This is a good example of a feature artist outperforming the main artist with one of Lil Baby's best verses in the past years
Money On Money (feat. Future)
This was the leading single for a reason, the bass hits hard and Future's verse in the second half of the song is so energetic
Whoopty Doo
The first half of the song is stronger than the second but Thug's flow is very bouncy and the beat is unique and complex
What are the Best Electives?
by Mason Arsenault
PHS offers many choices of electives, from Exploring Business to Guitar Lab. What are the best electives?
Ceramics is taught by Mrs. Green and Mrs. Savoia. Ceramics received a lot of positive feedback with senior Ryan Conway saying, “I look forward to going to ceramics every day to make nice pottery for my family”
This year the majority of students said the best elective they have taken is Street Law. Street law is a very interesting class where students learn about real world legal issues and follow popular cases.
Another elective that was polled as second favorite is Mr. Jackson's Psychology class. In this class students learn about the scientific study on a person's mind and behavior.
The third voted best elective was close but Mrs. Lang's Strategic Marketing was a student favorite. Strategic marketing is an interesting class that dives in how businesses thrive and collapse in the market.
When asked about the electives PHS has to offer, Principal Talbot was faced with a difficult question. He replied “this is like asking a parent to choose their favorite child."
He thought that the best elective Pembroke has to offer is Street Law."
Assistant Principal Ms. Kelly said guitar lab is the best. “Students have the opportunity to learn an instrument like guitar that others might not have," she said.
While this wasn't one of the most popular electives, many students did vote this class as the best elective they've taken.
Seniors' Secrets to Success
by Patricia O'Brien
As the 2025-2026 school year kicks off, many of the underclassmen are looking to the senior class for advice.
Navigating High School as an underclassmen can be a daunting and stressful experience. During these stressful times, seniors have shared their strategies they used to stay afloat. One major strategy according to Senior Jill Flaherty is to “do your work on time, and don’t fall behind” . Staying on top of assignments, and doing them on time, will help limit long, stressful nights of catching up on work.
Although high school can be stressful for many underclassmen, it can also be a time in life to make lasting memories. Throughout their four years of high school, our seniors have had many favorite parts such as playing sports, joining clubs, and so much more. One of the best parts of high school according to Senior Jayme Abban is “being able to be with my friends”. The friends made in high school will bring lasting impacts and memories that will last a lifetime
However, throughout their four years at PHS our seniors have made many mistakes as well. Senior Kevin Murrin says one mistake he made was “ not fully paying attention to the opportunities of the amount of clubs that are available”. PHS offers a variety of different clubs and getting involved can provide students with many benefits and is something every underclassmen should consider.
High school can provide many challenges, but by taking in the seniors valuable advice, the underclassmen can make their four years at PHS unforgettable.
What to Binge Watch?
by Kathryn McPhee
Sometimes, all you need after a long day of school and finished homework is to sit down and watch a good show. There are unlimited options and it is hard to choose. Here are 3 shows that you may get hooked on.
Starting off with “Outer Banks,” this show is very popular amongst teenagers. The popular series starts with four best friends living on an island. It is split between the Kooks, the wealthy, that live on “Figure Eight.” The other half that is not as wealthy, is the Pogues who live on “The Cut.” There is going to be another season coming out in 2026, and it will be the shows finale.
Another great option is “Greys Anatomy.” This is a show based on surgeons, doctors, and nurses. While watching you connect with each character, and decisions they make. It isn’t all about surgery. This show reveals their personal lives, and there is always a mystery trying to be solved about patients. “Grey’s Anatomy” is still running, they are in their 22 season, there is a lot to catch up on!
Lastly, “The Office.” This show is full of comedy in the workplace. Full of hilarious characters and occasional awkward humor. It is perfect for relaxing or a good laugh. The dry humor will keep you coming back for more. Although there are no more seasons coming out, there are nine seasons out now.
These shows aren’t just entertaining, they will make you laugh, think and relate. Ensuring your binge is truly worth it.
Video Game Review: Has Skate Changed too Much?
by Alex Anninos
Skate 4 is a highly popular free-to-play game which is currently ranked #1 in the Playstation store due to its highly fun gameplay. However, even despite these numbers, the fans of the previous entries in the franchise do not seem to be enjoying it as much as the general public.
Even though the game itself is free, the game is riddled with microtransactions, items that are optional for purchase that have no impact on the game except for cosmetics but are heavily littering the game with items that most people do not care for such as Nike gear and skateboard skins. The graphics have also changed dramatically since Skate 3 (2010). They are a lot more cartoonish, similar to Fortnite, which the original fans are not enjoying. The original fanbase believe that this game has strayed too far away from what it was originally intended to be.
Overall, I’ve played my fair share of the game and I can say that some of the criticism is warranted but some of it isn't. It feels a little soulless and I don’t find myself being drawn to the game as much as before but It has its moments and I’d say its worth it just because of the free-to-play aspect.
Restaurant Review: Somewhere Else Tavern
by Cameron Bright
I recently visited Somewhere Else Tavern In Pembroke with my girlfriend, Abby. When walking into the restaurant you get a homey type of vibe. There is a sign on the left for the Tavern part and a sign on the right for the restaurant portion. Obviously we went to the restaurant side and we were greeted by a lot of animal paintings on the walls. There was also not a soul in the restaurant side, the tavern side was packed however.
We waited for about two minutes until a server came over and told us to sit wherever we’d like. The service was very quick as we were the only people there. We had drinks within a minute of sitting down and got our food order placed within 5 minutes.
I ordered the Tavern Bacon Burger and Abby got the Caesar salad. When everything came the food looked delicious and it was, and I would definitely recommend you to try this place out for yourself.
I would rate my overall meal a 4 because you can’t go wrong with a bacon burger in my opinion but it wasn’t outstanding. Abby rated her overall meal a 3 because, “it wasn’t anything special, wasn’t the best caesar salad I’ve ever had, wasn’t the worst.”
As for the restaurant staff, they were friendly. The service was good, we got everything very quickly and she sounded very passionate.
The menu had a lot to offer. For example, I was deciding between a few, two burgers looked good, the wings looked good, and I also was thinking about getting chicken fingers.
I would recommend this restaurant to a friend but would suggest coming when it's more packed and they have live music playing. Since the food is already good, I think having background noise and music, anyone who comes will have a great experience.
