You may have seen him riding a motorcycle to school, or even seen him in the lunchline, and probably wonder who he is if you do not already know him. Well, his name is Glen Thompson and he is from the art department.
Glen has been working with pottery here in the art rooms for five years and teaches students how to throw pottery on the wheel as well as the many different steps and techniques of the process. Glen has a lot of experience with pottery as he has been doing it for 55 years.
He first learned pottery in college and prior to college had been working at a machine shop which made the learning process much easier for him. Before coming to PHS Glen taught industrial art woodshops at all levels; wood, metal, welding, sculpture, etc. As well as being a pottery legend, Glen is also an American legend. Glen is a Vietnam War veteran so make sure the next time you have the chance, thank him for his service.
Another cool fact about Glen is that he rides a motorcycle. When we asked Glen what the best part of riding a motorcycle was he told us, “The thrill. It’s like riding a horse but faster.” We also got the chance to speak with Glen about pottery.
In his opinion, the easiest piece of pottery to make is a cylinder. Glen also told us who at the school he thinks has the best pottery work. He told us that, “Karina Frank and Lauren Pearson,” have the best pottery work.
So if you are interested in/have any questions about pottery, or motorcycles, feel free to stop by the art rooms and talk to this month’s Local Legend, Glen.
