Half Day Fun
by Sara McCarthy, Alyssa Kates & Adriana Gabler
After going to school consecutively for several hours, five days a week, students get tired. It's inevitable. Every so often, however, students are given a half day, whether that be due to a holiday/break, a teacher in-service day, or a random gift administration decides to grant the student body.
Half Days are undeniably favored by students. We polled 100 PHS students to find out what they like to do on their time off. Among the top choices were to go out to eat, stay at home and meet up with friends.
Junior Joseph Dauphinee said, “My favorite thing to do on a half day is to go out for breakfast.''
Others opt for hanging in. Sophomore Keslsi Hatch said her favorite thing to do is, “...hangout with my friends… stay at someone’s house and hangout… go outside or for a ride and listen to music.”
Need help finding what to do on a half day? Thanks to over 100 student responses to a survey, we found that 37% of those students answered that their favorite half-day activity is to go out and get food. 34% say they like to take it easy and chill out at home and 29% answered they enjoy meeting up with friends. Whether that includes taking a long nap or watching TV or a movie.
Among the top choices for food were the Blueberry Muffin, Corner Cafe, Omelet Factory,The Mug, Chipotle, Target, Dunkin Donuts, Panera Bread, Sweet Frog, and many more.
A half day can be a great opportunity to take a break from everything. The largest number of answers to students' favorite part of a half day was getting home early and having the time to do everything they need and more. Most students agree that getting more sleep from a half day is the best.
There is a lot to do to make a half day fun and enjoyable, so don’t waste it!
