Notes from the Music Room....

General Music 


Kindergarten students read "Ruby's Chinese New Year" which introduced the animals of Lunar New Year and the celebration of family traditions. After the book, students engaged in a movement activity exploring the various animals of the Zodiac including 2024, Year of the Dragon!  We also practiced steady beat and identify same and different with musical phrases and instruments.


First Grade is using themes from Lunar New Year to create a rhythm composition project. We also watched a virtual presentation of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra performing "Peter and the Wolf" which introduced the instruments of the orchestra as well as visited a wolf sanctuary.


Second Grade classes are taking part in Carnegie Hall's Musical Explorers program learning about Chinese Traditional Music with Qian Yi. Students learn two songs: "Gong Xi" and "Mo Li Hua". 

 

At Evans Park, Grades 3 and 4  students are using Orff instruments to practice ostinato and pentatonic scale.

Grade 4 Students at Evans Park are learning the keyboard: One Shape, Six Chords
