PSU works in coalition with the Oregon Food Bank to host a monthly Free Food Market every Second Monday at noon (check in begins at 11:30). This is available to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
The Dean of Student Life offers a general fund. It is currently operating with a waitlist.
The Resource Center for Students with Children offers childcare coverage of 10-50% to students with children while attending PSU.

The Queer Resource Center funds emergency needs for trans and queer students of up to $300 per term, per student. Email the QRC at qrc@pdx.edu to access this fund.

SHAC offers both rapid COVID testing and antibody testing.
SHAC offers drop in peer student support groups for a range of identities, as well as general support groups.

SHAC is currently providing acupuncture for students, for relaxation and pain management, two days a week. Acupuncture is covered at 100% for students with PSU's Pacificorps insurance. Students with other insurance must pay out of pocket - it will get billed to their student account.

Join SHAC Counselor, Jessie Weisstein, LCSW, for informal facilitated conversations. This is your chance to come together as parents in a relaxed setting to support each other, share ideas, collaborate and commiserate! This group is open to any student parent in the PSU community and welcomes solo parents, guardians, queer parent(s) and/or anyone who considers themselves to be in a parenting role. A reminder, this is an informal support group for students with children. Come to as many or as few as you wish, stay for as long as you can, and feel free to have your children/pets with you!

SHAC is now offering Peer Recovery Support for students in recovery from substance use. A peer-to-peer drop-in group will provide a space for students in recovery to meet and build community. Drop-in hours will be held over Zoom every Friday between 2PM and 3PM. A student Peer Recovery Specialist is available to discuss resources, develop action plans, and share coping strategies. Join Cultural Resource Centers and Student Health and Counseling Services for a drop-in Students of Color support group. In this drop-in support group, participants will explore individual experiences, learn self-care strategies, and find solidarity, connection, and community within a safe and supportive environment. This group will include break-out sessions, and interactive conversations based on student interests and needs.
Topics may include, but are not limited to academic concerns, first-generation experiences, family issues, racism/microaggressions, intersectionality, imposter syndrome, as well as the impact of national/local events on emotional health.
The group will be facilitated by Amanda Ramirez, PhD, (she/her), Student Health and Counseling and Ahmed El Mansouri, MS, (he/him), MENASA Initiative Program Coordinator.

University Success provides in-hall after hours academic support for residents and is here to help students living on campus throughout their journey at Portland State with challenges big and small! We offer tailored support to first year students, new transfer students, sophomores, and upper division students by offering a variety of services.
We have two late night academic support centers on campus. University Success East, located in Ondine Hall, primarily focuses on first year students and University Success West, located in King Albert Hall, primarily focuses on transfer and upper-division students.
What is STEP?
STEP is a retention focused program, with the goal of helping students reach graduation. To help achieve this, each student is assigned a case manager who they will meet with on a monthly basis to discuss their career and educational goals.

GANAS Scholars Program is a year-long support/mentor program designed to help new Latino/a students transition to P.S.U from high school. Students enrolled in this program will become active members of the campus community and will acquire skills and tools that will lead to continuing success beyond the first year at P.S.U.
This program accepts close to 40 new students every year and provides some financial assistance for the first year. All enrolled students receive assistance to actively identify additional financial resources to support their education. Overall the GANAS program provides a variety of services intended to help students adjust to the college environment and achieve their academic goals.
The Diversity Scholarship program promotes diversity and student participation in campus life through volunteerism and academic excellence. Scholarship recipients will share their unique strengths and diverse perspectives through their involvement in on-campus activities, in the classroom and through their participation in community service. The Diversity Scholarship is a renewable tuition-remission credit in the amount of 12 undergraduate credits at the resident tuition rate excluding fees (actual amount varies).
This scholarship attracts outstanding students from diverse backgrounds, including racial and ethnic backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in higher education and pursuing their first bachelors degree. The Diversity Scholarship gives preferences to those who are/have: Oregon residents, Financial need (federally defined), First-generation* college students
The ACCESS Scholars Program is designed to help support students during their first year at Portland State University by providing academic advising, help with identifying and setting academic goals, and referrals to campus and community resources. In addition to these support services, students participated in a college success class. In an attempt to alleviate financial deficiencies ACCESS Scholars receive $1000 in tuition remission per quarter during their first year at Portland State University.
EMPOWER Scholars Program is a support program designed for first-generation, Asian, and Pacific Islander identifying students (both transfer and freshman standing) entering Portland State University for the first time.
Our program is based on the understanding that college can be challenging and sometimes discouraging as students transition into their first year, and it can be even harder as students of color and first-generation students- but don’t worry! EMPOWER has your back!
NATIONS Scholars Program is a one-year support and mentor program for first-generation, low-income, first-time students who will be starting at PSU in the fall. The program focuses on the Native American/Alaskan Native student experience and culture. The program design is to assist new students in their transition to PSU through academic support and community-building activities.
The University Career Center empowers students and alumni to explore, develop, and achieve their career goals by developing employer, campus, and community partnerships.
CRC is offering various virtual classes and in-person services.
The QRC is offering a variety of programs, including a virtual lounge, affinity groups, name overrides, SNAP assistance, events, and more.
The VRC has a virtual slack room, is offering Zoom meetings for support, a robust Instagram presence, and community programs.
The CRCs (including Pan African Commons, La Casa Latina, Native American Student and Community Center, Pacific Islander, Asian, & Asian American Student Center, Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia Initiative, and Multicultural Student Center) are hosting virtual drop ins, events and programs, & support.
RCSC continues to offer support and mentorship to students with children, as well as childcare support, Jim Sells childcare subsidies, lactation spaces on campus, and more.
TRIO supports students who are first generation, low income or have a documented disability. TRIO - Student Support Services (SSS) programs provide general academic advising, priority class registration, scholarship support, financial literacy, free tutoring/writing support, and much more. Spots are limited so apply as soon as possible.
