The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is a department housed within Portland State University Student Affairs division. We are funded through Student Fee dollars, and our budget is allotted each year by student representatives of the Student Fee Committee, which is part of student government. We offer programming to support our students' personal, professional, and academic development. We offer support services and feminist leadership opportunities for students of all genders. We also create events and spaces for students to engage in community, learn, and celebrate feminist identities.
The Feminist Leadership Cohort, Feminist of Color Community Coordinator, Political Education and Action Lead, Feminist Engagement & Outreach Coordinator, Transwomen’s Community Coordinator, Feminist of Color Engagement Coordinator, and WRC Welcome Desk roles are the leadership opportunities we provide.
Our Mission
The Women's Resource Center advocates for the best educational and campus experience for all members of our community. We accomplish this by advancing social justice, ensuring access to personal empowerment for students of all genders, and by working toward a safe and healthy campus.
Our Values
We recognize that feminist work is both theory and practice. In our efforts to fulfill our mission, we aim to embody the following values:
Undoing patriarchal violence and all forms of violence: white supremacy, heteronormativity, homophobia, transphobia, and more
Honoring ideologies rooted in Black & indigenous queer, trans, and women’s activism, theory, and work
Feminist leadership
Nourishment of ourselves at every level
Self-determination
Autonomy
Resilience
Persistence
Honoring all ways of knowing
Interconnection, interdependence
People-first, people-centered
Reducing barriers
Celebration, joy, and a culture of appreciation
We call these our living values. As we move forward this academic year, staff will be working strategically to identify how to work with these value concepts and hone them into a comprehensive set of values and statements that fully encompasses how we embody the feminist work that the WRC does.
