Once a student has been identified as exceptional at an IPRC (Individual Placement and Review Committee), an IEP (Individual Education Plan) is written and shared with the student, their parents, and teachers. In order to help students meet the expectations of the Ontario secondary school curriculum, the Peel District School Board offers two levels of special education support.
With Learning Support Level 2 (LS2), your child will be assigned a Special Education teacher who will monitor their progress throughout the semester. The monitor teacher will meet with your child or child's teachers on a pre-arranged basis (bi-weekly, monthly, or as needed).
Direct Support may include:
a conference with the student in person or by email (e.g. course updates, goal setting, capacity building, etc)
Indirect Support may include:
resources for the student through Google Classroom or this website
review of report card (e.g. progress report, midterm report, semester 1 final report)
a conference with the classroom teachers, guidance counselor, or parent
With Learning Support Level 1 (LS1), your child will see their Special Education teacher on a daily basis for 1 semester through a Learning Strategies course (GLE) and also monitor support (LS2) in the semester without their learning strategies course (GLE).
Parents/Caregivers are members of the IEP team, so their input is valuable when an IEP is developed and updated.
Parent/caregiver input forms are sent home during the first week of each semester for students with LS1 and LS2 support. If you haven't received it, download a copy or pick one up from room 203.
If your child has a SEA claim laptop/Chromebook at school and would like to use it at home, then please sign the take home form and return it to a Special Education teacher. Click here for the SEA page.

Having a brother or sister who is living with a disability can be fun and challenging for children and teens. Our therapeutic groups offer the chance to: meet other children/teens who understand, share experiences, get information, do some fun activities and learn about different disabilities.
Participants, between the ages of 6 and 17 years, will be grouped by age in four different groups.
The groups meet once a month and are led by trained and experienced Program Facilitators.
The DEEN Caregiver Support Network is a safe space for parents, guardians and caregivers of adults with disabilities. The network discusses a range of topics relevant to their day-to-day experiences and is an opportunity to gather, share lived experiences, resources and learn from others in similar circumstances.
When do we meet?
The network meets biweekly on Tuesday evenings at 8 pm. Dates and topics are listed below.
