PCSD Birth- Four Program
Plattsmouth Community Schools offers several early childhood programs for 3-4 year-olds. The programs serve children at the Plattsmouth Early Childhood Center located at 10th and Main. In addition, because our district is the grantee agency for Head Start in Cass County, we also operate a Head Start classroom in Conestoga.
Funding from a variety of sources (Head Start, the Early Childhood Office of the Nebraska Department of Education, Special Education services, and Plattsmouth Community Schools) allow us to provide an array of integrated programs for 3 and 4 year-olds who reside in the Plattsmouth School District.
All classrooms provide a literacy-rich environment for early learning experiences. All programs implement the Creative Curriculum for instruction as well as to monitor progress and share information with parents. Our early childhood programs focus on the whole child. Developmentally appropriate activities facilitate growth and development in social, language, problem-solving, and motor skills. Health and nutrition are embedded in the early childhood curriculum as well as in the family services component.
Parent involvement is an integral part of early childhood programming. There are a variety of opportunities for parents to participate in their child’s education (e.g., volunteering in the classroom, supporting learning activities at home, serving on a parent committee, becoming a member of the policy council). Information to support parenting is available through expert speakers, parent discussions, and individually based resource plans.
Special education services are available for children from birth to five years of age. Children receiving these services have a verified disability or special need and an individual plan that meets the special education regulations of the Nebraska Department of Education. A variety of services and daily schedules help these children succeed in the learning environment.
The Early Childhood Center offers a home visitation program for families with children ages birth to three years. This program incorporates home visits, playgroups, and child development workshops in order to support parents as their child's first teachers.
