Where are you from?
I'm from Ecuador. I am 54 years old.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Spanish and I'm learning English.
Do you sing or play an instrument?
No, I sing. It's the first time I've done it, I don't play any instrument either. I would like to learn to play the piano.

Is Hello, Goodbye by The Beatles your first song you learned in English?
Hello Goodbye is my second song that I sing in English. The first song I learned is: "A Boat in the River" by the band Styx. I heard that song 40 years ago, when I was a teenager. I was 14 years old and I was in my second year of high school in my country. At that time, we had students from the U.S. doing internships in my hometown of Guachapala.
Davida Jordan interviews Pedro Ayala at PCC Southeast.
At that time, I learned a little bit of that song, and it all stayed there. As the years went by, due to life circumstances, I now live in the U.S. for a year and study English at PCC. I met Professor Davida Jordan and asked her to teach me how to sing in English. I learned "Hello Goodbye" by the Beatles and I love singing this song.
Is learning to sing songs in English a motivation for you to study the language?
Since I was a teenager, I've loved listening to English songs, but I never sang along. I dreamed of singing one day. Listening and singing in English motivates me to continue studying. Perhaps it's an art or a skill that has been hidden inside me and that I'm now discovering.
Thank you very much.
