The following are just a few examples of the projects that students created for their advanced multimedia project. Additional projects will be showcased in our class D2L page.
Secrets of the Sea is a short web animation Khasey created to feature on her portfolio website and to share on YouTube. The design assets were created in Adobe Illustrator and brought into After Effects to create the composition. The music has been licensed from Adobe Stock. This was a reimagined and extended project Khasey began in the Writing For Multimedia Class.
Khasey created an animation of a boat sinking to the bottom of a trench while two people sit inside the ship over a card game looking at a door that has appeared.
From Khasey: "I began this project in Writing for Multimedia intending to showcase more of a visual story, which resulted in a webcomic about two people playing cards in a sinking ship. These photos were brought into Illustrator and I began creating the first scene to develop the main assets that would carry over multiple scenes, such as the boat and characters. In that class, I ended with an incomplete comic as my illustrations were very detailed and took me more time after the course. Coming into this class was the perfect opportunity to push myself to truly make these illustrations come to life. I wanted to challenge myself to develop the webcomic into a functioning animation."
The Pursuit of Life by Sotiria is a short film that explores the complexities of human experience focusing on themes of grief, resilience, and the interplay between personal struggles and the surrounding world.
From Sotiria: "To curate The Pursuit of Life: a script was written for the short film, broke the script down into a shot list, filmed visuals, audio voiceover recordings, and Adobe editing software was utilized for the post-production process. Both hand-held footage as well as tripod footage were used for filming visuals, and a smartphone was used to capture supplemental footage."
Fairy Forest by Jenna is animated film that takes us into the forest where the fairies and unicorns live. This was a newly developed project created by Jenna during the term that she took this class. She used her skills that she already learned in animation and video production to create her project.
From Jenna: "I decided that, for my capstone project, I would choose a piece of royalty-free music and create an animated music video for it. The piece of music I ended up choosing seemed perfect for a video of a magical fairy forest, so I decided that the video would be something of a tour through that forest, showcasing different elements of it. I chose to create the assets in Adobe Illustrator, and then assemble and animate them in Adobe After Effects."
Plastic Effects by Emmanuel is a multimedia project designed to educate and engage viewers on the environmental impacts of plastic. The project combines informative content with interactive elements to deepen understanding and raise awareness about the effects of plastic pollution on ecosystems and the planet.
Emmanuel began this project in the Writing For Multimedia Class and finished it in the Advanced Multimedia Class.
From Emmanuel: "For this story, I used a mix of different software programs and Wix which is an online website builder. For a majority of the images I used Photoshop if there was any editing necessary, graphics and icons were made using Adobe Illustrator. Adobe After Effects was used for the motion graphic video, Illustrator was also used for some assets then imported into After Effects."
Non-Euclidean by Patrick is an exploration in scene/world-building in Unity 3D Engine for creating surreal landscapes, for future incorporation into VR projects. Incorporation of analog video artifacts as material textures.
Patrick built a series of scenes in Unity for a video montage of the surreal landscapes he is working on for a personal project he is developing further. He created a video that walked us through each scene as though we were the ones experiencing it.
From Patrick: "One of my passions has been in using analog video aesthetics and collecting CRT televisions. An aspect I wanted to explore, incorporating into a real time 3D environment, capturing video from the artifacts created in the translation of analogue back to digital and applying them as material textures for 3D objects.
