Tell The Stories You Want to Tell and Show the World The Stories You Want To Make
In 2014, my husband and I moved from Virginia to Oregon for a new beginning
My name is Mary Anne Funk. You are welcome to call me Mary or Mary Anne, or if you prefer, Mrs. Funk.
To help you get started, I’ve created a webpage for this class designed to give you a sneak peek into what this course is all about.
Please, take a moment to click through the sections and explore some details of the course.
Once our D2L course shell opens, you’ll have access to the full syllabus, detailed course materials, and all the resources you’ll need for a successful term.

This is a fully online course, meaning we do not meet for a weekly class together. All of your work will be completed asynchronously in D2L, allowing you to engage with the material at a time of day that works best for you.
The course is structured around four key project development phases: Initiation, Planning, Implementation, and Closing. Each phase includes modules, lessons, labs, weekly briefs, and project assignments that open at specific times and have designated due dates, ensuring a consistent pace and structure throughout the course.
Please know that I am here for you throughout the quarter. I am available during a weekly cafe chat over Zoom or during my student office hours listed on our D2L homepage.
Success in an online class requires a significant amount of self-discipline. Here are some recommendations to help you stay organized and accountable.
Set a Schedule: Treat this class as if you are attending a remote session by setting a regular day and time on your calendar to work on the module lessons. This will help you maintain accountability and consistency.
Think of Module Lessons as Class Sessions: Use the scheduled time to engage with the module lessons, just like you would in a traditional classroom setting.
Keep Track of Core Project Assignments: As you plan your weekly schedule, ensure you take note of core project assignments and their due dates.
Estimate Time Wisely: Please don’t underestimate the time required for this class and your projects. Completing assignments may take more time than anticipated, so it’s important to stay proactive.
Note Due Dates: There are specific due dates for assignments. Create a calendar to track when things are due, and add tasks for project assignments and upcoming module lessons to help you stay on schedule.
Self-Accountability: Regardless of the class or project type, self-discipline and commitment are essential. Hold yourself accountable to the goals you set for yourself.
Communicate with Your Instructor: If you have questions about an activity, reach out to your instructor early to seek help. Additionally, keep your instructor informed if you foresee any issues that will cause delays in your submissions.
Taking an online course can at times feel isolating. To help facilitate community, I will hold a weekly remote café chat over Zoom during the class term. You don't have to attend. I'm simply making this space available for anyone who wants to stop in to say hello, ask questions, and connect with anyone else who stops in from the class.
Our remote MM250 Café Corner is a great way to get help if you need it, to bring people in the class together, to put faces to names, to provide a human element that makes the creative world so vibrant, and to allow everyone to engage with the content meaningfully.
To see the dates, I'm hosting a cafe chat, and to access our Café Corner Chat, you will find the links under the Zoom menu at the top of our D2L Class Page.
The Café Corner Chat is for anyone wanting to stop in to say hi or get help with their work. You can hop in whenever you would like to do that.
