About Me

Northern California has been my home for all of my life.  The fabulous year round weather, diversity of people and cuisines, access to a wide range of motorsport events and spectacular backroads make for living in California one of the prime locales in the world.

I’m kind of fearless (or at least I try to be).  Being an only child pressed me to be creative and to find interesting ways to keep occupied.  I never allowed myself to be bored.  One would often find me playing the piano, jumping off rooftops, starting up some crazy entrepreneurial businesses with my friends and riding all terrain vehicles (ATV’s) and dune buggies.  As an adult, my curiosity continued as I earned my PADI Scuba and Open Water Diving Certifications and have earned flight hours in a powered hang glider.

My first sports car was the manual, rotary engine Mazda RX-7 (quite an oil guzzler).  I didn’t realize it then, but it was because of that car, that “planted the seed”, for future car control endeavors.  Fishtailing it several times in the rain and managing to get it back in line was such a thrilling feeling.  It wasn’t until much later (as you read on) where I was able to expand on that exciting feeling.

What kind of Porsches do you have or did you have?

My husband has owned a 1999 Carrera S and a 2002 Boxster S and we now have a 2021 911 Turbo S (992) in Dolomite Silver and a 2022 718 Boxster GTS in Viola Metallic.  Different platforms, but both are so much fun to drive…and drive we most definitely do!  One may wonder if there is another P-car in sight.  Stay tuned!

What is your favorite style of driving?

My all-time favorite style of driving is taking the Turbo S on the racetrack.  I love how tracking is technical, yet so visceral as something like sound (engine and tires) or the vibrations through the seats and steering wheel send subtle messages to the brain about what you are doing right (or not).  I’m not afraid to push my car; after all, it’s a Porsche.  Tracking has also led to more situational awareness while driving on regular roads.  The sport has taught me to always look ahead (eyes up), scan around me, predict and be predictable.

Forever track buddies

How track life all started for me

When my husband Tony and I first met, I would hang out with him and his buddy Jim at the racetrack.  I got plenty of steps in, walking the paddock and taking action photos.  I sat in on the classroom discussions and learned all about the flags and cornering techniques.  Needless to say, I wanted to be part of the action so in 2018, my husband signed me up for the 1 day BMW ///M School at Thermal.  I was hooked!  Next up, the 2 Day Advanced ///M School.  Since that time, some of the local tracks I’ve been to are:  Laguna Seca, Sonoma Raceway, Thunderhill (3-mile East & 2-mile West), Thermal & Buttonwillow.  If one is interested in tracking, I would highly recommend signing up for PCA’s High Performance Driving Education (HPDE) events.  They have knowledgeable and experienced instructors, mandatory class time for beginners and great paddock camaraderie and support.

My first track car was the BMW ///M4 Competition in Yas Marina.  I still have this beautiful car.  I recall being the only female driver in a room filled with men.  With our helmets on, we all looked the same, but there was the indisputable fact that I was the only woman present.  Around this time, a group of us ladies met at a track event, we bonded and founded FemPowered (@fempowered.drivers).  Our group is for women (as well as for their supportive men) who all share the love of motorsports.

I also enjoy driving on the Bay Area backroads.  We have amazing roads with endless route configurations that satisfy all skill levels.  I am one of the trained Lead Drivers for PCA GGR’s Fun Runs.  These are social drives that always end at wonderful lunch venues.  I have met so many wonderful, lifelong friends on these drives which further solidify my views of the Porsche Family being irreplaceable!

Is there something your GGR members who may be reading this may not know about you?

If we’re not at the track, Cars ’n Coffee or on a twisty road, you’ll find us on a cruise ship or traveling to different regions of the world to sample their cuisine.  Next stop:  perhaps a Euro Delivery which combines the best of both worlds:  traveling and motorsports.
