Teach Plus Pennsylvania is currently accepting applications for the 2024-25 Pennsylvania Teaching Policy Fellowship. This highly selective leadership opportunity is a paid fellowship for 30 outstanding Pennsylvania teachers looking to deepen their knowledge of education policy and amplify the voices of teacher leaders in Pennsylvania.

Spotlighting Recent Pennsylvania Efforts Impacting the Attraction, Preparation, and Retention of Special Education Personnel

On April 23, 2022, the final form amendments to Chapter 49: Certification of Professional Personnel became effective upon publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.

 

Chapter 49 sets forth requirements for educator preparation, certification, induction, and ongoing professional education.

 

The Bureau of School Leadership and Teacher Quality within the Office of Postsecondary and Higher Education at the Pennsylvania Department of Education has created a Chapter 49 Implementation and Updates page that will serve as a central location for news and announcements.

At a recent Unified Champion Track and Field Competition, General McLane senior Alexis Wescoat stops for a quick interview. 

Alexis will major in special education when she attends Edinboro University in the fall. Three years ago, she joined the unified track and field team and found her calling.


Immaculata Receives Grant to ‘Fully Engage Next Generation’ of Special Education Teachers.pdf

“Receiving the Special Education Performance Grant to help recruit future special ed teachers is an honor. I am excited to partner with Immaculata to provide students from Chester Upland School District the opportunity to support this important initiative,” said Dr. Craig Parkinson, superintendent of Chester Upland School District, who earned his Ed.D. from Immaculata in 2011. 

Special Olympics International has selected Slippery Rock University (SRU) to its list of National Banner Unified Champion Schools. SRU is the first college or university in Pennsylvania to earn this designation, which honors middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities for having "inclusive school climate and exuding a sense of collaboration, engagement and respect for all members of their communities.."
