Job Shadowing

ARIN Intermediate Unit 28 

Job Shadow 

This job shadow experience will be tailored to the students' interest and availability in their schedule. It will involve all special education careers. 

Central Bucks School District

Connect with a Coach 

Students will have the opportunity to learn and work alongside the job coaches employed in the school district. Students will take prerequisite course work as well as have an observational period during which they will learn, reflect, and debrief with the job coach. 

Robert Morris University

Field Visits

Through field visits at the DePaul School for Hearing and Speech, The Neighborhood Academy high school students will have an opportunity to job shadow various educators working with students with disabilities. 

Business Development and Management

Bellefonte Area School District

Sunny Nook Greenhouse

BAHS is starting a school based business that will incorporate growing and selling flowers and vegetables. This project will be jointly managed by students with and without disabilities. 

Bethel Park School District

Copy Center

 Peer Partners will be incorporated into the Grow Copy Center to learn all aspects of copying, adding a shredding station, and offering drop off/pick up on all floors of the high school. 

Riverview School District

Student Farmer Market

Students in the Farmers Market Club will partner with students in the life skills program to sell plants and flowers (grown in the unit) at the local farmers market. 

Upper Saint Clair School District

SHOP@USC Storefront 

High school students, with and without disabilities, will work together to design and manufacture products which are sold within the school community.

Showing How Opportunity Pays at Ft Couch (SHOP@Ft.Couch)

Students with and without disabilities, in 7th and 8th grade, will work together to design and manufacture products which are sold within the school community. 

Food Services Development and Management

Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15

Planning Meetings, Menu Development, and Restaurant Depot Field Trip

CAIU, Central PA Career and Technical Center Culinary Arts, and ECE students will meet to discuss the scope of the Snack Shack project including planning to purchase materials and developing a marketing plan. Students will work together to develop and test menu items. They will purchase equipment and consumables for the snack shack during a field trip to the Restaurant Depot. 

Capital Area IU15

Snack Shack Soft Start and Operations

Students receiving CAIU services along with students from Central PA Career Technical Center will work together to do a trial run with a new Snack Shack. As part of the soft start, students will work together to set up equipment, practice using equipment, and sorting snacks/consumables. Once successful, students will set up, operate, and break down the snack shack at community events. 

Deer Lakes School District

Coffee Shop

Deer Lakes has partnered with a local business to create a franchise within the school. Students without disabilities will have the opportunity to act as peer mentors in the coffee shop and receive elective credit for the period. A transition consultant will assist with the creation of job descriptions and a daily schedule for the business. Related service providers, including the speech-language therapist, occupational therapist, and physical therapist, will be able to push-in to provide relevant instruction during the work tasks.

Students with and without disabilities will gain competitive employment skills and become ServSafe while serving staff and students morning food and beverages.
