Extra Curricular

Extra curricular opportunities are designed to provide students meaningful ways to interact with students with disabilities in Unified Sports and Future Special Educators Clubs.  

Unified Sports: BOCCE

Central Cambria School District

CCSD will create a Unified Sports bocce team and use the mentoring program to optimize the Inclusive Youth Leadership Component. 

Gateway School District

Institute, establish, and support a Unified Sports co-ed bocce team composed of a number of students who are eligible for Special Olympics. This team will be regarded just like every other interscholastic team at Gateway School District.

General McLane School District

Unified Sports bocce for K-4 and 9-12 will be offered in the 2022-2023 school year. (Students in Newsroom Interview at 4:00) 

Ligonier Valley School District

Athletes with disabilities will participate as equals with their nondisabled peers in bocce.

North Allegheny School District

NASD will work with Special Olympics PA to implement the Unified Sports bocce program in the 2022-2023 school year.

North Hills School District

NHSD will work with Special Olympics PA to implement the Unified Sports bocce program in the 2022-2023 school year.

Riverview School District

RSD will work with Special Olympics PA to implement the Unified Sports bocce program in the 2022-2023 school year.

West Allegheny School District

Students with and without disabilities will participate in Unified Sports with the goal of creating and sustaining positive relationships and learning about what qualities a special education teacher should possess.

Unifed Sports: Track and Field

General McLane School District

Unified Sports track and field for grades 5-12 will be offered in the 2022-2023 school year.

West Allegheny School District

Students with and without disabilities will participate in Unified Sports track and field with the goal of creating and sustaining positive relationships and learning about what qualities a special education teacher should possess.

Future Special Educators Club

Keystone Central School District

Future Special Educators Club

The Future Special Educators Club will be created and include a vision statement, with a focus on special needs, differences, acceptance, and kindness. As part of this club, students will participate in extracurricular activities/games and promote inclusion through hosting events during the school day.

Reading School District

Aspiring Special Educators Club

Students interested in an education career will gain experience in working with students with disabilities and participate in other activities which can help them work toward a career in special education.  Weekly experiences and two meetings per month, where students will complete book studies, hear from speakers, and network with others in the program, will be provided.
