Welcome to Algebra II Seniors! This week will be spent on getting comfortable with Google Classroom and other educational technology that your child will need for online learning, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Quizlet, Khan Academy, Edpuzzle and Zoom. Please make sure to read over the syllabus carefully. If you have questions or concerns about it, feel free to email me.
This week we will review basic terminology on equations and get detailed with simple linear equations. We will work on various examples of linear equations with variables on one side. These equations will involve performing distributive property and combining like terms.
We will wrap up our review of equation this week. Multi-step equations with variables on both sides, involving distributive property, combining like terms and fractions, will be practiced and discussed. There will be a quiz on Friday, so please check your PowerSchool regularly. We will also have a practice quiz before Friday to review and reinforce what we learned.
This week, we'll move on to the unit on systems of equations. We will discuss methods of solving systems of equations such as graphing and substitution. Problems will involve solving for a variable, graphing linear functions in slope-intercept form and finding solutions to systems graphically and algebraically. Progress reports are coming out this week, so please be on a lookout for those.
After starting off with systems of equations last week and solving them by graphing, we are moving on to substitution. Once we master this second method of solving systems of equations, we will do a review of the two methods and finish up the week with a quiz. Late work is still being accepted for full credit. Please keep in mind that the first trimester is over on December 4.
We will review solving systems of equations by graphing and substitution and have a quiz involving both methods. Your child will need some graph paper for this week, so please print it out from Google Classroom or have your child ask me to leave a few sheets for them in the main office to be picked up. I am also able to drop off graph paper for students in shop for those in need. Late work is still being accepted for full credit. Please keep in mind that the first trimester is over on December 4.
We will review solving systems of equations by graphing, substitution and elimination and have a test involving all three methods and word problems. We will then move on to the next unit on Polynomials. We will continue our work with polynomials this week. The focus will be on polynomial additions, subtraction and multiplication. This will feel similar to combining like terms and distributive property, but will include additional layers including polynomials with multiple variables and exponents. We will also start preparing for a quiz on the first two sections of this unit. Please keep in mind that middle of the trimester is January 29, so late work should be turned in as soon as possible.

After starting off with factoring last week, we will continue exploring and practicing different factoring methods. We will be looking at factoring by GCF, factoring trinomials into two binomials, factoring by grouping and difference of squares. Please keep in mind that Trimester 2 ends on March 19.
