Welcome to Algebra II Honors! This week will be spent on getting comfortable with Google Classroom and other educational technology that your child will need for online learning, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Quizlet, Khan Academy, Edpuzzle and Zoom. Please make sure to read over the syllabus carefully. If you have questions or concerns about it, feel free to email me.
This week we will start working on learning the basics about polynomials. We will learn about what makes them unique, how to classify them, add, subtract, and, if time permits, multiply. This week also marks the middle of the trimester, so look out for progress reports coming to you very soon. Any students who have make up work to do need to turn it in as soon as possible.
We will continue our work with polynomials this week. The focus will be on polynomial additions, subtraction and multiplication. This will feel similar to combining like terms and distributive property, but will include additional layers including polynomials with multiple variables and exponents. We will also start preparing for a quiz on the first two sections of this unit.
The beginning of the week will be spent to review what we have learned so far and take the first big quiz of the trimester involving introduction to polynomials and multiplying polynomials. We will then move on to dividing polynomials using long division and synthetic division. Please keep in mind that the first trimester ends on December 4.
This is a short week, so we will spend some time reviewing division of polynomials and introduce factoring. Please keep in mind that the first trimester ends on December 4.
After starting off with factoring last week, we will continue exploring and practicing different factoring methods. We will be looking at factoring by GCF, factoring trinomials into two binomials, factoring by grouping and difference of squares. Report cards are coming out this week, so please be on a lookout for those.
We will start off by talking about roots and how to find them in polynomials by solving polynomial equations. We then, will look at roots on a graph in the form of x-intercepts. We will discuss graphs of polynomials and end behavior. After covering these objectives, there will be a practice test/review and a test on polynomials.
The week will start with a review of graphing quadratic functions. We will have a practice quiz and a quiz on graphing. During the rest of the week, students will review factoring and solving quadratic equations by factoring and completing the square.
We will spend the week going over practice MCAS tests - paper based as well as digital. Make up and catch up work will also be allowed during class time. Please keep in mind that this week is the end of the second trimester.
The week will start off with a Chapter 8 Half Test Part 1 which will focus on solving direct and indirect variation, multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting rational equations and solving rational equations. We will then continue with Chapter 8 and introduce operations with radical expressions and fractional exponents.
