Characters

Sophie

Sophie is main character. She is adventurous, kind, and passionate about the sea. She's curious about everything and asks questions about every single detail about everything. Sophie knows a lot about boats and knows what she's doing when she helps around the boat, even though Brian and Uncle Stew bring her down about it.

Once Sophie has made up her mind she will stick to it. No one can tell her otherwise. Sophie wants to visit her grandfather, Bompie, in England and sail across the ocean. Along the trip, she tells stories about Bompie. She makes them so detailed it's like you were there when it was happening. Sophie does get her memories mixed up some times, but they all become clear at the end.

Cody

Cody is goofy. He's independent, unconventional, likes to joke around, have fun, and doesn't take too much seriously. He is not too liked by his cousin and uncles. They think he doesn't take anything seriously and that he thinks everything is a game. They don't think of him as anything but a knucklehead. Sophie doesn't mind his gestures and thinks he's funny. Cody doesn't like when like people call Sophie an orphan, but grews more and more curious about her parents.

Cody is All over the place, fixing every little thing on the boat. It doesn't matter how hurt he is, he will find a way to help. He's very persistent about it. But all Cody really wants to do is prove himself to everyone, especially his father.

Brian

Brian isn't the most liked character. He bugs and bothers everyone. Mostly Sophie. He is inconsiderate, insensitive, pessimistic. He cannot keep his mouth shut. He has to make a comment about everything.

Just like his father, he makes lists for just about anything, or something that would be of use to him. At one point he starts to question why others don't like him, and if he really is annoying.Brian wants to know all about Sophie's parents and why she knows Bompie's stories.

Uncle Dock

Uncle Dock is chill. Not much gets on his nerves, he is an easy-going guy, and cares a lot about Sophie. He wants to make sure the boat is good and that everyone is good. He has some history about someone named Rosalie which leads to a little inside joke between everyone.

Uncle Stew

Brian is a lot like his father, Uncle Stew. He is not the most positive person there. He is, too, pessimistic, makes checklists, and complains about everything. He is always teasing Sophie and pointing out her flaws because she is a girl, and he has nothing nice to say about Cody. He wants people to tell him things and complains about no one telling him anything, leaving him in the dark, which is a little funny.

Uncle Mo

Cody is nothing like his dad, Uncle Mo. Uncle Mo is lazy, insensitive, and a little bigger than everyone else. He doesn't like how goofy his son is and wants him to make himself useful. He is good at art and draws in his free time, and Sophie sees this, but he doesn't have a job relating to that.
