The theme of the book Fever 1793 is that helping others helps you heal
¨ I set out on my search. It felt like a bonfire spitting embers on my head.¨ Matilda was very hot and weak.
As Matilda was looking around, she started to feel sick. She started thinking back to when her mother would wake her up early in the morning. “Just let me sleep, she thought. Then blackness.¨
Matilda woke up in a makeshift hospital. She quickly found out she was sick but would be fine.
Matilda was surprisingly happy that she had fainted, because her fainting brought her and her grandpa to a place that they could both get help and get fed.
Later in the book, Matilda finally learns that helping others will help people heal. Because of this, she decides to start helping others, because people out there need as much help as they can get.
¨folks out there need all the help they can get, even if it does come from a skinny white girl¨
Matilda wanted to help people out there, and as she did, it helped her learn how to do many things. She learned how to take care of sick people and take care of little kids.
And because Matilda helped the people, she was a great help when caring for Nell, Robert, and William.
