Dear US Students and Families,
We hope you are taking in the slower pace and change that summer brings and safely enjoying whatever it is that brings you joy and restoration. You certainly deserve it… We, over here on the Athletic Leadership Team (Dia Clark ’06, Director of Athletics, Boys’ Programs, and Robin Cardin Lowe ’84, Director of Athletics, Girls’ Programs), are working diligently to utilize the many lessons from a year-plus in COVID, as we eagerly move forward toward a less restrictive and more normalized version of our fall athletic seasons. We are very excited as we map out our upcoming practice and game schedules, and whether you are a potentially new, or returning student-athlete, we cannot wait for you to be back on campus for the fall pre-season.
A little bit of background about what our aim is: Our collective goal is to provide positive and significant development experiences for all students who participate in the athletic program. There is no better place to learn life’s lessons than on an athletic field, court, or course. Co-operation, leadership, emotional control, confidence, resilience, and commitment are just a few of the many benefits that participation on a team can help instill and develop. We want to challenge students to take chances with new training techniques, with new sports, and with new roles on teams, and also to compete outside their comfort zones. All students are encouraged to try a sport this year, regardless of experience. There is a place for everyone in our program!
This fall we will offer teams in Cross Country (boys’ and girls’), Varsity and JV tennis (girls’), Varsity and JV Soccer (boys’), Varsity and JV (if numbers support) Soccer (girls’), and Varsity and JV (if numbers support) Field Hockey (girls’). Additional information about our athletic offerings is located online here. Please note that all students interested in participating in a fall sport are encouraged to participate in our preseason sessions. Preseason information is available online here.
COVID Protocols:
At this time, all outdoor practices will be mask-free. All fully vaccinated students and coaches must upload their proof of vaccination to their Magnus account. Those not vaccinated, or who have not uploaded their vaccination record, will be required to test weekly with a PCR test within three days of the start of each week. During preseason, this will be the responsibility of each individual student-athlete who is not vaccinated. As the school year begins, the plan is for there to be weekly testing opportunities on campus, similar to what occurred this past school year. One notable difference (there will be many), is that Upper School teams will now have the option to move practices indoors if the weather forces us off the fields. Please note that depending on the roster size and make up of our teams, moving practices indoors may require masking. We will follow up to confirm this, and to communicate any updates to pre-season practice plans prior to the first practices.
Any student wishing to participate in preseason activities must have completed health forms on file (uploaded in Magnus) prior to arriving on campus. No student will be allowed to participate without these completed forms.
For more information about the various aspects of our program, we encourage you to take some time to review our Athletics Handbook as well as our Concussion Policy.
Parents:
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 2 at 7 p.m. via Zoom for our Parent/Coaches Meeting. This is a highly recommended opportunity for you to meet with your child’s coach. Coaches will happily present their experience, coaching philosophy, expectations for the season, and will provide time to answer questions. At this meeting, prior to speaking with coaches, you will hear from the Athletic Directors about programmatic details and expectations.
Here’s to a welcomed and exciting 2021-2022 year!
Strive On!
