This week we will get started with cirriclium! The stuff we learn is HERE on my website, and due dates for the WHOLE UNIT are on Schoology.
In this unit we will be covering some of the most basic ideas in chemistry that will be used throughout the semester. The vocabulary and ideas we start with here will be used to explain bigger and more complex ideas in later units. While this content is usually pretty easy for students, it is also very important for success throughout the semester!
We start the unit with our most important topic: the scientific method. ALL science is done using this systematic problems solving tool. It allows us to identify problems, predict an outcome, and then test that prediction to see if we were right or wrong. Throughout our semester we will use the scientific method as a tool to conduct lab experiments!
The remainder of the unit covers some basic topics and terminology, such as how to describe matter and changes in chemistry, followed by some opportunities to learn some techniques in measurement, which is another valuable tool we will need for the rest of the course!
