Teacher Responsibilities for Classroom Behavior Management

PBIS Pillars & Teaching Requirements

All teachers are required to explicitly teach and reinforce the following school-wide behavior pillars:

1. Be Safe

• Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself

• Use materials and equipment appropriately

• Walk at all times indoors

2. Be Respectful

• Use kind words and actions

• Listen and follow directions the first time

• Take turns and share

3. Be Responsible

• Follow directions and complete tasks

• Take care of personal and school property

• Stay on task and ask for help when needed

Teaching Expectations:

• Behavior expectations must be taught at the beginning of the year, and routinely reviewed and retaught as needed.

• Teachers are expected to teach and practice common area procedures including:

  • Hallways

  • Cafeteria

  • Restrooms

  • Arrival/Dismissal

  • Playground

• Use modeling, role-play, and student participation to reinforce behaviors in each area.

• Reinforce expectations using behavior matrices, visuals, and student-friendly language.

Teacher Responsibilities

• Teach, model, and practice behavior expectations regularly

• Post expectations visibly in the classroom

• Use a common language aligned with PBIS

• Track behavior interventions and communicate regularly with families

• Collaborate with support staff for students needing additional interventions

• Contribute to a positive school climate by reinforcing expectations across all settings
