WHAT IS A CONTINENT?

A continent is a large mass of land in a region of the world. There are seven continents: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Oceania.

WHAT MAKES A CAPITAL CITY, a capital city?

A capital is a city where a region's government is located. This is where government buildings are and where government leaders work.

Wetlands are areas where the land does not drain well. The ground in a wetland is saturated, or full of water. They can be freshwater or estuarine (located at the coast with brackish water) or both!

The Commonwealth Games will take place from 28th July - 8th August in different places all over Birmingham, England.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will showcase athletes in 19 sports and 8 Para sports.

The Commonwealth Games are a sporting event held by The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). Athletes from countries that are part of the Commonwealth of Nations can take part. It is the third largest sporting event after the Olympics.

Matariki is the Māori name for a group of stars. The science name is the Pleiades and instead of ‘group’ they call it a star cluster.

It signalled the start of the Māori New Year for some tribes. Maori people followed a lunar calendar. That means that the months were organised around the moon. Marama is the name for moon. That is why the calendar is called Maramataka.
