I’ve created many practice scripts to help guide staff members in understanding what a script for a PATV show should look like. These scripts serve as a valuable reference, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and the show flows smoothly. Additionally, I’ve written numerous anchor, sports, and weather scripts for the show, tailoring each one to fit the specific needs of the segment. Crafting these scripts has sharpened my writing skills and allowed me to contribute to the overall structure and success of the broadcast.
A part of my job is to guide the staff members to become future leaders, whether that is in PATV or anywhere else. Through our group chats and in class discussions I assist in helping them manage their responsibilities.
My job as the show editor is to check the script every night before the show by 9pm to allow the anchors to make adjustments. I started this adjustment this year to help the staff members build good habits and feel confident in their abilities.
I’ve conducted several interviews that have been instrumental in shaping my work. One tool I’ve found incredibly useful is Otter.ai, an app that transcribes conversations in real-time, ensuring I have an accurate record of quotes to source. This has allowed me to focus more on engaging with the interviewee rather than worrying about missing key points. Through interviews with community leaders, athletes, and others, I’ve learned how to ask thoughtful questions, create a comfortable atmosphere for open conversation, and thoroughly listen to ask more in depth questions.
This was the script I wrote for my package on flag football. Throughout my reporting journey, I've developed certain habits that I find most successful when creating packages. One of these habits is always carrying a pen and paper with me on-site. This allows me to jot down key details and observations during the event, which I can later incorporate into my voice-over for the package. In this particular flag football package, I was able to utilize this technique effectively, ensuring that my report was both accurate and reflective of the atmosphere at the game.
My journey creating the documentary on Mauchline Manor began with researching the history of the house and the restoration efforts of Kevin and Cheryl. I planned the structure, focusing on key moments in the restoration process, and filmed interviews with the couple to capture their personal story. Editing the footage involved selecting impactful clips and pairing them with music to enhance the narrative. Throughout the process, I learned how to tell a compelling story, paying attention to detail and staying organized.
