Curriculum Overview
The Handwriting Without Tears program addresses the physical production of writing, turning neat letter formation into a stress-free habit. Designed by an occupational therapist, it uses fun, hands-on tools like wooden blocks, clay, and chalkboards to teach letters in a simple order that just clicks for kids. It also uses a unique double-line paper to keep kids from getting frustrated with letter size and messy spacing. Their philosophy is to make writing by hand so automatic that your child doesn’t have to think about how to form the letters anymore. This frees up their brainpower to focus entirely on what they want to say, preventing the physical fatigue and tears that often stall early writing lessons (hence the name!). Grades K - 2 teach printing/manuscript and grades 3 - 5 teach cursive.
The Building Writers workbooks help with the thinking, planning, and storytelling side of writing. A companion to Handwriting Without Tears, this series uses short, 15-minute daily activities to help writers practive and build confidence. It gently moves kids from writing single words to crafting strong sentences, and eventually, clear paragraphs. Students get playful, independent practice in three main areas: telling stories, sharing facts, and stating their own opinions.
Together, these two user-friendly programs give children the tools and steps they need to become a capable, fearless writers.

The TK Kick Start Kit Overview
The Learning Without Tears Kick Start Kindergarten kit is designed to bridge Pre-K and Kindergarten, making it the perfect curriculum for Transitional Kindergarten (TK). It focuses on capital and lowercase letter formation, numbers, and early phonics concepts using a developmentally appropriate, multi-sensory approach.
Lessons start with the simplest form—capital letters first—grouped together by how they are formed. This volume contains 36 pages focused on capitals. Then, students move to learning lower case. By year’s end, students are tracing an individual letter (both in upper and lower case) in provided sentences. The strongly recommended Teacher Book guides parents in using the unique methodology and provides step-by-step lessons, along with reading and writing connections. The easily identifiable teaching directions are scripted. Using the Teacher Book along with the student text and manipulatives is strongly recommended. Students will learn proper hand grip and letter formation, using the student consumable. The necessary manipulatives include the Letters to Words Blackboard Set; the blackboard with double lines; slate chalkboard with chalk bits; little sponge cubes; the pencil for little hands; and teaching songs (available for free on YouTube® and linked below).
