Why Our Makerspace is a Game Changer for STEAM Learning
At the heart of our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) program lies a vibrant and thoughtfully designed Makerspace—a place where Ms. Kreyngold's creativity meets innovation, and students bring their ideas to life. What sets her Makerspace apart is its intentional structure and student-centered design, which truly empowers young makers to explore, build, and solve problems.
One of the standout features of our Makerspace is the fully functioning materials cart. Stocked and organized with everything students need, this mobile resource makes materials accessible and reduces downtime—encouraging spontaneous creativity and seamless transitions between planning and prototyping. In addition, we have a dedicated recyclable materials sorting area, teaching students not only about sustainable practices but also how everyday items can be transformed into the foundation of remarkable projects.
Our space also includes project storage areas, which allow students to return to and refine their work over time, and flexible seating options, giving them the freedom to collaborate or focus independently as needed. Together, these features have been a total game changer, creating an environment that invites experimentation and supports diverse learning styles.
What truly fuels my passion for teaching STEAM is its open-ended nature. There are countless ways to approach and solve real-world problems, and that freedom encourages students to think critically and creatively. Each child brings a unique perspective to the challenges we explore, and watching their ideas unfold in such different—and often surprising—ways is incredibly inspiring. Perhaps most rewarding is seeing students take simple, recyclable materials and use them to create functioning prototypes. It’s proof that innovation doesn’t require expensive tools—just imagination, resourcefulness, and a space that encourages exploration.
In our Makerspace LAB, we’re not just building projects—we’re building confidence, resilience, and a love of lifelong learning!
