Our 5th graders embarked on an engaging field trip to the New York Hall of Science, where they dove deep into the world of simple machines, circuits, and scientific inquiry. Students made real-world connections as they explored interactive exhibits that challenged them to think critically and creatively. This experience allowed our learners to enhance their understanding of forces and motion, while investigating how simple machines and circuits are essential in the world around us. Through this hands-on experience, our students demonstrated curiosity, inquiry, and a passion for learning—values that are central to the IB PYP.
This field trip sparked discussions and investigations back in the classroom, where students reflected on how simple machines make everyday tasks easier and how circuits power the devices we use in our daily lives. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their learning to real-world situations, nurturing their scientific thinking and problem-solving skills.

In addition to our scientific explorations, March also saw our 5th-grade poets take the stage in a Poetry Slam event, where they had the opportunity to share their creative works with the 4th-grade students. The Poetry Slam allowed our students to express themselves through free-form poetry, celebrating the power of words and language. The event encouraged our learners to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and ideas in unique and imaginative ways, embodying the IB PYP's focus on communication and expression.
Students demonstrated a strong understanding of poetic techniques, such as rhythm, rhyme, and metaphor, while showcasing their ability to be reflective and take risks in their writing. This event was a wonderful platform for students to build their confidence, while fostering an appreciation for the art of poetry and the impact of language on others.
