We kicked off the month with our K–1 Assembly to celebrate the end of Quarter 1. Students gathered together and cheered on classmates who earned awards for kindness and open mindedness. We also recognized all the children who had perfect attendance! The assembly brought a sense of excitement and unity and students left feeling proud, motivated, and ready for the new quarter ahead.
Before Thanksgiving break, our classrooms were filled with gratitude and appreciation as students shared what they are thankful for. We heard everything from family and friends to pets, teachers, and favorite foods! Across first grade, our Thanksgiving theme was turkeys! Students created a wide range of educational turkey crafts that showcased their learning and creativity. From sight word turkeys to three digit addition activities to imaginative writing pieces, each project allowed students to practice important skills in an engaging and meaningful way.
Parent Involvement Day was a true highlight of the month. Some parents joined to help create autumn crafts and some read stories and introduced themselves to the class. Parents also joined us in the classrooms this month to read autumn themed books, and the students absolutely loved it. Hearing a variety of voices and stories brings a special energy to the classroom. We want to share our heartfelt appreciation for the time families have given to be part of classroom events. We are grateful for all the support you continue to give.
Election Day gave our first graders an exciting chance to learn about voting and making responsible choices. Many classes set up their own voting stations, complete with ballots and a private “voting booth.” Students practiced choosing between options, discussing what matters to them, and understanding that every vote counts. They also took part in our school elections, which made the experience feel even more real and meaningful. The activity helped students learn about community, fairness, and having a voice. It was a wonderful introduction to civic participation and decision making.
First graders explored how the world works! In the next unit, students will explore how people understand their place in the world by learning about personal histories, journeys, exploration, and how movement shapes communities and cultures.
