Playing a new math game during centers
Our 5th graders have been inquisitive in January as they learn how to add, subtract, and multiply fractions with multiple strategies. They have been displaying communication skills when they share their strategies with their classmates and explain how they got their answer.
In wonders students have been caring and reflective as they learn about civil rights leaders and how to make a positive change in their own communities. In writing students were balanced as they worked on two different types of essays; compare and contrast and how characters change over time.
Working on our Miss. Nelson Is Missing Essay!
We have been learning about the age of exploration and why people and countries explored. We have been reflective as we learn about different explorers and the impact they had on the countries they explored. We had our showcase and made magazines where we researched explorers and taught about them.
In science we have been studying the sun and how the movement and rotation of earth around the sun impacts day, night, and shadows. We took a sun tracker outside at three different times during the day to see how time impacts a shadows length and location.
Outside for Science to track shadows.
Our school built the tallest tower of the day at the New York Hall of Science!
New York Hall of Science Field Trip.
Class 5-403 made a collage, each part representing a different quote from Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
Exploring the New York Hall of Science.
We got the most SOAR cards in the month of January! And 5-403 got the most in 5th grade!
