Second Grade continued with "How We Express Ourselves" for December and students learned a lot about how different insects express themselves within their environments. Our classes got to know the different adaptations of insects, as well as the different parts and patterns of insects bodies that help them navigate and survive in their environments. Students then created their own insects with clay and wrote about their insects.
We also took a trip to the Queens Botanical Garden where students explored the different plants in our environment. Students expressed themselves by sorting plants, veggies, and fruits in their own ways and learning about how plants thrive in different seasons. The classes got to plant corn and bean seeds.
Finally, Second Graders had their "Endangered Animals" Showcase where students raised awareness about why their chosen animal was in danger of becoming extinct. Students did research on their animal and wrote an essay as well as constructed awareness posters for their showcases.
We are looking forward to our Cultural Traditions showcase in January. Stay Tuned!
