In kindergarten, we encourage our students to be open-minded by positively celebrating differences and trying new things. Whether learning about a new culture, working with a different partner, or exploring a new idea, open-mindedness helps children grow socially and academically. Thank you for reinforcing these values at home and helping your child build the confidence to embrace new experiences!
With the final stretch of the school year ahead, we encourage continued support at home by reinforcing fairness in everyday moments. Thank you for your partnership in your child's learning journey!
Learner Profiles in Kindergarten
In K203, our students were being inquirers by exploring books and using the pictures to help them make meaning and ask questions. They showed curiosity as they made observations, asked thoughtful questions, and shared their thinking with peers during reading time.
In kindergarten, students demonstrated balanced by cooking pizza in after-school and being open to trying new things. They explored new ingredients, worked together to follow steps, and even tasted unfamiliar toppings—all while having fun and learning through hands-on experience!
Our kindergarteners showed they are principled by cheering on the 3rd–5th grade students during the state test pep rally! They used kind words, positive energy, and big smiles to encourage their older schoolmates—demonstrating responsibility, respect, and school spirit.
Our kindergarten students enjoyed learning about Earth Day on April 22nd! We had thoughtful conversations about how we can take care of our planet, and each student shared a promise to help the Earth. Their promises included not littering, throwing away trash properly, recycling, and walking more to reduce pollution.
In our kindergarten science exploration, students learned all about animals and their habitats. Each child chose an animal to research and created a matching habitat. They proudly shared their projects with the class, along with interesting facts about their chosen animals. It was a wonderful opportunity to build speaking skills and spark curiosity about the natural world!
In social studies, our kindergarteners have been learning about the concepts of past, present, and future. To help make this idea more meaningful, each student created a personal timeline of their life. They included special moments from when they were a baby, shared what they’re like now, and imagined what they want to be when they grow up. This hands-on project encouraged reflection, creativity, and a deeper understanding of how we grow and change over time. It was so special to hear their dreams for the future!
In math, our kindergarten students have been exploring how to sort shapes into different categories based on color, size, number of sides, and shape type. They especially enjoyed an interactive lesson on the Smartboard, where they practiced sorting shapes using technology in a fun and engaging way!
In reading and writing, our kindergarteners have been working hard on creating story maps based on our class read-alouds. They are learning to identify important story elements such as characters, setting, the problem and solution, and can sequence events from the beginning, middle, and end. In their writing, students are practicing using finger spaces, proper capitalization, and correct punctuation to strengthen their sentence structure and storytelling skills.
