Who We Are
This unit focused on where we live. Students gained knowledge on the geography of New York, and we also gained knowledge about natural disasters and how people respond to them. As a culminating activity we thought about the Native Americans and how they have contributed to our society today. Students created a brochure or poster for one of the Native American Tribes that lived in New York. They researched how they used natural resources, the role of government, their homes, and what they traded with other people or a change they brought about.
Sharing the Planet
Our current unit focused on animal adaptations and colonization of the United States.
As a real-life learning activity, we took a trip to the Queens Zoo, even though the weather was not ideal. We got to see different animals and the different types of living conditions that they have, as well as adaptations that they may make when it rains.
