Developing a shared standard

The purpose of the Moderation Portal is a progressive professional learning resource that supports practitioners in developing a shared understanding of standards. It does this through collaboratively and practically reflecting on examples of teaching plans. Incorporating collaborative professional dialogue is an integral part of the process as it is through collaborative discussion that practitioners process and develop their understanding of the standards.

For some practitioners this experience can be offered through participating in a Peer Review Team. It is recommended, though, that establishments engage with the Moderation Portal by offering the opportunity for practitioners to reflect and discuss their submissions.

As a by-product of the process of moderation exemplars of learning, teaching, and assessment are created and shared demonstrating a range of levels of achievement. It is not recommended that these exemplars are used as “off the shelf” lesson plans or assessments as they are bespoke creations designed within unique contexts.

Possible scenarios for using the Moderation Portal

Scenario A

Individual practitioners can access the Moderation Portal as part of their CPD hours independently accessing the professional learning activities to meet their individual needs or independently moderate or create learning, teaching and assessment examples.

Scenario B

Establishments can use the Moderation Portal as part of their collegiate calendar. Teaching teams could moderate or create learning, teaching and assessment collaboratively and upload to the Moderation Portal for feedback

Scenario C

Clusters or learning communities of establishment can use the Moderation Portal as part of their moderation processes. Cross-school/stage moderation teams could moderate or create learning, teaching and assessment collaboratively and upload to the Moderation Portal for feedback.

In all scenarios participants can volunteer to be part of a Peer Review Team
