“The development of skills ( or competencies ) is essential to learning and education to help young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. All children and young people are entitled to opportunities for developing skills for learning, life and work.”

Building the Curriculum 4

The WDC Competencies for Learning

The WDC Competencies for Learning focus on the essential skills that students need to thrive in today's world. We call them the 6 C's: creativity, communication, collaboration, citizenship, critical thinking skills, and character. By developing these competencies, students will be able to think creatively, express themselves effectively, work well with others, be responsible citizens, think critically, and possess strong character.

The framework is designed to be integrated into the curriculum, so students can learn and apply these skills in real-world contexts. With the 6 C's, students will be well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Project Based Learning Examples: Steam Powered Dreams

Steam Powered Dreams

Let’s Play! Steam powered dreams is a fantastic PBL project which develops digitial literacies. It can be adapted for 1st or 2nd level. There are a wide range of planning tools, resources film clips and downloadable resources which can be used to frame a ‘Day of Play’ or your own PBL project with your classes.

The Day of Play begins, unexpectedly, during an everyday lesson. A strange video begins to play on the interactive whiteboard. It seems to have been sent by a secret agency called ‘Dreams of Time and Space’!
