Welcome to The Centurion Award! Named after the Roman history of our Carleith site, this new school-wide scheme is designed to recognize and celebrate the wonderful talents, skills, and "learning powers" our children develop both inside and outside of school.
We want to celebrate the whole child! For example, your child will be recognized for demonstrating teamwork in their football club, perseverance at home, or kindness in their Brownies group. This award helps us see and celebrate their growth everywhere they go!
There are 10 Centurion Award Badges that children can work towards. They are linked directly to "Our Learning Powers" that the children are very familiar with. They cover:
Teamwork
Independence
Perseverance
Curiosity
Changemaker (Citizenship)
Kindness
Communication
Reflection
Ideas
Bravery
To earn a prestigious Centurion Award Badge, children must demonstrate the sustained development of their Learning Powers.
Earning a Centurion Star: Each time a child provides evidence showing they have developed a particular Learning Power over a period of time, they are awarded a Centurion Star ⭐.
The Evidence: This evidence must be recorded in their Learning Journal or Seesaw. For example, a child volunteering consistently as a "Buddy" to younger children over a term, and recording this experience, would earn a Star for Kindness.
Earning the Badge: Once a child has collected 8 Centurion Stars, they will be presented with the Centurion Award Badge.
A key part of gaining Centurion Stars is encouraging to reflect on their experiences both inside and outside of the school. Children will be asked to record in their "learning journal" how they have developed one of the learning powers. For example, if they have set themselves the target of developing their teamwork whilst working on a Project in class they will be ask to reflect on how have they specifically got better a teamwork, how did they encourage their team mates, how did they help organise their team to divide up the task fairly. For an achievement outside of school it may be that a coach is able to confirm how they have developed their perseverance.
Alternatively the children will be taught how to upload evidence onto Seesaw, this could be a video, an audio recording or photographs.
At each level of Centurion Award their are examples given of what the children could do in order to achieve a Centurion Star. This is not an exhaustive list and the Centurion Award is about recognising a very wide range of achievement.
Challenge : We understand that every child is unique, with their own strengths and areas for growth. The Centurion Award is designed to celebrate your child's personal progress as they challenge themselves, not to compare them to someone else's achievements.

The Centurion Award has 3 levels spread throughout your child's time in school. All children will move onto the next level regardless of how many badges they have been gained. In a similar way to the Beavers, Cups and Scouts the children will move onto the next level of award.
If you click on the images below you will be able to see the examples that the children can work towards at each level.
