Educational Assessment
A student may require an assessment to diagnose what their learning need is. In addition they may be able to access NZQA Special Assessment Conditions which enable them to receive a reader/writer or other such support. Ray is an experience assessor who specialises in many areas especially with students who have ASD.

Acronyms You May Come Across
SENCO - Special Education Need Coordinator
The role of the SENCO is to ensure you and your child have the support, information and funding required at school.
RTLB - Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour.
This team assists the teacher working with your child. They work with you to ensure they understand what works best for your child’s learning and behaviour, and then put strategies in place, within the classroom.
TA - Teacher Aide
A teacher aide may work 1:1 with a student or with small groups. They are directed by the teacher but sometimes run independent programmes.
LSC - Learning Support Coordinator.
This is the person in each school who will assist with sharing information, coordinating agencies, and ensuring your voice is heard.
ORS - Ongoing Resource Scheme
Schools may apply for this funding for students with extreme learning or behaviour needs.
