Resolving Issues. Despite the best intentions and efforts, problems sometimes arise. The following steps should be taken in the order indicated:
If the issue is between the candidate and the cooperating or mentor teacher:
The candidate should contact their supervisor to report the problem, explain what they have done to date, and request support. The supervisor will communicate with the involved parties, individually and/or together with the goal of understanding the issue(s) and identifying an acceptable resolution.
If a satisfactory resolution is not reached, the supervisor should contact the Student Teaching Coordinator. The Student Teaching Coordinator may offer additional strategies for the supervisor and/or candidate to use and/or may facilitate a three-way meeting with the supervisor and the candidate to discuss the issue further and identify resolutions.
If the issue is not resolved, the Student Teaching Coordinator will consult the Curriculum and Instruction Department Chair.
If no satisfactory resolution is reached, SUNY Oswego’s Student Handbook procedures are followed.
