Joining the military after graduation can be a great option for some students but enlisting in the armed forces is a very important decision that is not to be taken lightly. The military offers many lifelong benefits such as healthcare, educational assistance and the honor of serving your country but it is a serious committment that cannot be easily broken and the work can take a toll on you physically and mentally. As with everything, it is crucial for you to do your research and be fully aware of your options.

Take the ASVAB

The Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery is a timed, multiple-choice test developed by the Department of Defense. ASVAB scores are traditionally used to determine if you qualify to enlist in the military and which job in the military would be appropriate for you. It can also be used for career exploration and many technical/vocational schools use the ASVAB for placement exams. Read more about what the ASVAB is and how to prepare.

The ASVAB is offered on the ECHS campus once per semester.

Resources for Military Families

Military Tutor.com 

Tutor.com for U.S. Military Families, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, is a program that provides on-demand, online tutoring and homework help at no cost to eligible service members, civilian personnel, and their dependents. With live, expert tutors available 24/7, military-connected students can receive academic help at their moment of need—anywhere they have an internet connection. There are over 40 courses to choose from (Math, English, Science, Social Studies, World Languages) including Test Prep (PSAT, SAT, and ACT).

Simply go to the Military Tutor website, select your military branch and follow the directions to get a password to access the service.

Dependents of Veterans may be eligible for financial student aid for college. 

There are several programs such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill, that can provide tuition assistance to eligible dependents of members of the military. The amount you will receive depends on the length of service and type of school you choose to attend. You can contact the local VA for information on specific benefits you are qualified for, and how to apply for them.
