Ready to try a new take on the classic poster presentation? If you've been looking for a way to integrate coding into your classroom, interactive posters could be your first step. Using Ozobots or Makey Makeys to make a regular poster turn into an interactive one is a great way to get your feet wet when it comes to coding. Mrs. Nicole Sanford has successfully tested two different versions of an interactive poster in sixth grade Science and Tech Literacy classes. Check it out!
In Science, students coded a path for an Ozobot to travel around the parts of a plant cell. Students then recorded a video of their Ozobot's journey and explained the function of each cell part.
There was lots of collaboration and problem solving when coding the Ozobot's journey around the plant cell. Students had to code turns, reversals, speed, stops, and more.
In Tech Literacy, students coded Makey Makeys to share audio recordings about what they learned about Digital Citizenship.
Students used trial and error to make sure each code that connected the Makey Makey to the poster worked properly.
Coding in the classroom might seem overwhelming, but Mrs. Sanford said not to fear learning alongside the students. It's OK not to be the expert in the classroom. Before students started the project, she asked them to be open-minded. If they got stuck, they had to work together to problem-solve. This was something Mrs. Sanford enjoyed most. She felt the collaboration, problem-solving, and retention of the content were worth the time. Some resources Mrs. Sanford used for her interactive posters are below.
