Civil Air Patrol's cadet program is different from the many other youth-oriented programs in America today in that leadership and aerospace education are it's cornerstones. Every year, thousands of young people from 12 years through age 21 are introduced to aerospace education through CAP's cadet program. The program allows its cadets to progress at their own pace using a 21-step achievement program that includes various lessons in aerospace education, leadership training, physical fitness, and character development. When they've progressed through the higher levels of achievement, cadets can compete for academic scholarships to further their studies in fields such as engineering, science, aircraft mechanics, aerospace medicine, meteorology, as well as many others. Those cadets who earn cadet second lieutenant (Mitchell Award) may enter the Air Force as an E3 (airman first class) rather than an E1 (airman basic).
EDUCATION. CIVIL SERVICE. OPPORTUNITIES. FUN.
Whatever your interests: survival training, flight training, photography, astronomy, rocketry, there's a place for you in CAP's cadet program. Andersen Air Force Base Cadets have the unique opportunity to participate in real world aerospace education lessons via training sessions with various military units on the installation. Others may enjoy traveling abroad through the International Air Cadet Exchange Program or participating in week long intesives like Encampment. Still others assist at air shows on the island and other community service related opportunities.
