Cadet Membership
Cadets, from ages 12 to 18, are welcome to join Civil Air Patrol. The process for joining requires that prospective cadets attend three meetings before completing the online application. Once a cadet has joined CAP, they are eligible to retain their membership until age 21, at which point they must transition to the adult (senior member) ranks to continue their service. Cadets can also elect to change over their membership to senior member status when they turn 18.
Cadets are given opportunities to gain valuable leadership and teamwork skills through weekly meeting attendance. The CAP cadet program also offers fun activities and events that educate and challenge cadets like local military installation educational tours, color guard participation opportunities, encampment, and community service support. Adult Membership
Adult members join the senior member ranks to assist with running the squadron and mentoring the cadets in their journey through the cadet program. Many adult members are parents and former cadets, as well as local military members.
Adults who join as senior members are given duty assignments and follow a progressive rank structure. They hold special positions in the squadron and help with the overall workings of the program. Some current and former military members may be eligible to join as a non-commissioned officer (NCO) and therefore share their expertise with fellow members.
